Referred to in the industry as “the bootcamp for screenwriters” this is one tool any aspiring screenwriter needs in their toolbelt.
An “all in one” guide to writing screenplays that sell for beginners and intermediate writers. Film school is expensive, and won’t give you real world experience. Histograms are the key to proper exposure and creating stunning images in the post-processing stage of DIGITAL photography.
Photographic Histograms are unique to Digital Photography.
Most books on the subject of Photographic Histograms only discuss the Luminosity Histogram that is projected on the LCD screens of Digital cameras. There are three other types of Histograms that you should know about — RGB, Colors, and Color Channel.
Most books also only describe the basics of how to use the Luminosity Histogram to set exposure. In this relatively short but fact filled book you will learn how histograms are created and their significance to photography.
Though they did not exist in the days of film photography, they are closely related to the Exposure Zones System created by Ansel Adams and Fred Archer around 1939.
Can you identify with any of these experiences?
- Do your eyes glaze over when people talk about histograms?
- Do you feel that histograms are too technical for you?
- Are you enthused about photography but confused by all the technical jargon?
- Do you wonder how professional photographers get such great images?
- Are you tired of well-intentioned friends giving you bad advice about photography?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, end the frustration. Just scroll up and grab a copy today.

Photos are windows into our souls, into our lives and memories. Each photo brings back countless emotions and is a snapshot of a moment in time. Looking at a wedding photo brings back fond memories of smiling, dancing, being surrounded by cheering friends, and perhaps crying as you stared into the eyes of the love of your life. Looking at a picture of an old pet brings back nostalgia for your childhood, remembrance of bright, sunny days when you went to the park to play catch or take a walk, and of grooming soft fur. Yet oftentimes these pictures turn out blurry or simply wrong, but who really cares as long as at least one picture is decent? But what if you could do more than just avoid blurriness? What if you could really, truly capture an important, memorable moment in your life with a quality that brings tears to your eyes years later rather than the question: “Where was this even taken?” Maybe these questions aren’t things you’ve thought about, or things you even knew you needed to know to take good pictures. But these are all very much keys to succeeding at digital photography. In this book, I will lead you through every step to success you need in learning how to take digital photos like a professional. This includes: • Choosing the right camera • Photography techniques • Specific types of photography, like food, weddings, and landscapes • Photo editing • And much more! So go on, and give it a shot. Soon you will find that the perks of knowing how to properly take a photo go far beyond merely saving money at a wedding by taking the photos yourself. After all, “a picture is worth a thousand words,” and our memories caught in an eternal moment of time are priceless.

For anyone who has ever been inspired by a TED talk…
…this is an insider’s guide to creating talks that are unforgettable.
Since taking over TED in the early 2000s, Chris Anderson has shown how carefully crafted short talks can be the key to unlocking empathy, stirring excitement, spreading knowledge, and promoting a shared dream. Done right, a talk can electrify a room and transform an audience’s worldview. Done right, a talk is more powerful than anything in written form.
This book explains how the miracle of powerful public speaking is achieved, and equips you to give it your best shot. There is no set formula; no two talks should be the same. The goal is for you to give the talk that only you can give. But don’t be intimidated. You may find it more natural than you think.
Chris Anderson has worked behind the scenes with all the TED speakers who have inspired us the most, and here he shares insights from such favorites as Sir Ken Robinson, Amy Cuddy, Bill Gates, Elizabeth Gilbert, Salman Khan, Dan Gilbert, Mary Roach, Matt Ridley, and dozens more — everything from how to craft your talk’s content to how you can be most effective on stage. This is the 21st-century’s new manual for truly effective communication and it is a must-read for anyone who is ready to create impact with their ideas.

There are many books on the technical aspects of film and video editing. Much rarer are books on how editors think and make creative decisions.
Filled with timeless principles and thought-provoking examples from a variety of international films, the second edition of Karen Pearlman’s Cutting Rhythms offers an in-depth study of the film editor’s rhythmic creativity and intuition, the processes and tools editors use to shape rhythms, and how rhythm works to engage audiences in film. While respecting the importance of intuitive flow in the cutting room, this book offers processes for understanding what editing intuition is and how to develop it. This fully revised and updated edition contains:
- New chapters on collaboration and “editing thinking”;
- Advice on making onscreen drafts before finalizing your story
- Tips on how to create and sustain audience empathy and engagement;
- Explanations of how rhythm is perceived, learned, practiced and applied in editing;
- Updated discussions of intuition, structure and dynamics;
- An all-new companion website (www.focalpress.com/cw/pearlman) with video examples and links for expanding and illustrating the principles of key chapters in the book.
The Art of the Cut is a clear and concise introduction into many of the most important concepts in film editing. The book is written primarily for those who wish to learn the basic principles of editing but who may also be filmmakers or close to the filmmaking process. For this reason, some of the editing concepts are actually filmmaking concepts but are absolutely critical for both the editor and filmmaker to appreciate and understand. With the aid of photographs and graphics, the book neatly summarizes over 100 concepts related to the practice of editing and serves as an easy-to-understand and handy reference guide. If you want to master the art of editing and learn the key principles quickly, then this book is the perfect resource to have.
Nonlinear editing is the key topic in digital film and video today, and Digital Nonlinear Editing is the professional “bible” of the new era in post-production. The book details the procedural, creative, and technical fundamentals of editing moving images within a computer-based, interactive environment. Readers will understand not only what nonlinear editing is and how it works, but also how such systems can be used to achieve greater creative flexibility as well as cost and time savings.
The completely revised second edition chronicles a decade of digital nonlinear editing from home consumer editing applications to professional film and video editing systems. It provides in-depth explanations of digital video compression, storage, and networking; advances in digital video, computer processing power, the blurring of offline and online, digital storage advances, and desktop painting and compositing applications.
By far the most comprehensive book on the subject, Digital Nonlinear Editing details the growing role of compressed and digitized video in all types of communication. From the basics of traditional editing to the cutting edge of digital media, this is the book for every current and prospective communications professional.

- Used Book in Good Condition
This book breaks new ground by doing something for digital photographers that’s never been done before–it cuts through the bull and shows you exactly “how to do it.” It’s not a bunch of theory; it doesn’t challenge you to come up with your own settings or figure things out on your own. Instead, it does something that virtually no other Elements book has ever done–it tells you flat-out which settings to use, when to use them, and why.
If you’re looking for one of those “tell-me-everything-about-the-Unsharp-Mask-filter” books, this isn’t it. You can grab any other Elements book on the shelf, because they all do that. Instead, this book gives you the inside tips and tricks of the trade for organizing, correcting, editing, sharpening, retouching, and printing your photos like a pro. You’ll be absolutely amazed at how easy and effective these techniques are–once you know the secrets.
LEARN HOW THE PROS DO IT
Each year we train thousands of digital photographers and, almost without exception, they have the same questions and face the same problems–that’s exactly what we cover in this book. You’ll learn:
• The real secrets of how the pros retouch portraits
• How to unlock the power of layers (you’ll be amazed at how easy it is!)
• How to use Camera Raw for processing not only RAW photos, but JPEGs,
• TIFFs, and PSDs, too! (And you’ll learn why so many pros like it best–because it’s faster and easier)
• The sharpening techniques the pros really use (there’s an entire chapter just on this!)
• How to deal with common digital camera image problems, including brightening people in dark shadows and getting the best color possible
• The most requested photographic special effects, and much more!
THE BOOK’S SECRET WEAPON
Although Elements 14 offers some digital photography features that Photoshop CC doesn’t offer, there are plenty of features that Photoshop CC has that Elements 14 still doesn’t have (things like channels, HDR, etc.). But in this book, you’ll learn some slick workarounds, cheats, and some fairly ingenious ways to replicate many of those Photoshop features from right within Elements. Plus, you can follow along with all the images used in the book, available for download on the book’s companion webpage.
Since this book is designed for photographers, it doesn’t waste your time talking about what a pixel is, how to frame a shot, set your exposure, etc., and there’s no talk about which camera or printer to buy. It’s all Elements, step by step, cover to cover, in the only book of its kind, and you’re gonna love it!
Discover how to create professional-quality digital videos–faster than you can say “lights, camera, action”
